The idea was to create a sensory game that was quick and easy that involved shapes and colours which also becomes fun and educational for children. It helps the children to learn their shapes and colours. We made this for children who are on the ASD spectrum and have sensory difficulties so they can go at their own pace so it doesn’t become so overwhelming for them.
We wanted to use materials such as felt. It’s soft to touch and easy to cut to shape. Felt comes in all different sizes and different colours too you are spoilt for choice.
*hand and eye coordination
*Fine gross motor skills
You will need the following items
*Felt (colours of your choice)
Draw 4 shapes on to the chosen coloured felt with the template.
Cut out the four different shapes.
Glue one of each shape on a different piece of chosen coloured felt.
Cut out more shapes if needed
Write the shape name under each correct shape so you know what they are.
There two different ways-
1) mixing the shapes up first then-placing the correct shape on top of the correct shape on the board.
2) Same coloured shapes. match each shape and colour to those on the board. For example, the blue circle matches the blue circle shape on the board.
For both of the games mentioned, we suggest when the shape is placed on top of the one on the board, the name of the shape is read out to identify the correct shape to the players.
This is a cheap, fun educational sensory game to make and play for children who are on the spectrum.
Children can learn how to make this game and play it with there parents, teacher, careers etc go and give it a play happy learning your shapes and colours.
Many children love to play with items that they can run there hand through. One of the favourite sensory activities we found is to be with pasta.
This is such a fun activity to do with children on a wet and dry day.
You want the colour of the pasta is colourful and vibrant so that it catches the eyes of young children. This activity is good for children with sensory needs or even without. It’s a great activity all around. Children can explore by scooping and pouring into different containers even mixing different coloured pasta together. They can also try different shapes and sizes too to give it the extra fun factor.
